This Saturday Music City will once again showcase its musical diversity as the 23rd Annual Stellar Gospel Music Awards will be held at the Grand Ole Opry House. Hosted by Byron Cage, Kirk Franklin and CeCe Winans, this year's awards show will feature several special presentations and performances in addition to handing out Stellar Awards in 28 different categories. Scheduled performers for the evening include Franklin and Winans, along with the Clark Sisters, Beverly Crawford, Fred Hammond, Smokie Norful, Ricky Dillard and the Rance Allen Group, Marvin Sapp and DeWayne Woods. Artists and other celebrities who will serve as presenters or are scheduled to be in attendance, include Anthony Anderson, Regina Belle, Myron Butler, Shirley Caesar, J. Moss, Sherri Shepherd, Richard Smallwood and Trin-i-tee 5:7, among others.
Besides handing out the Stellar Awards, there will be several special presentations. Tramaine Hawkins will receive the "James Cleveland Lifetime Achievement Award," which will be introduced by actor/dancer Ben Vereen and presented by Edwin Hawkins. The James Cleveland Lifetime Achievement Award is given annually to an artist or group who has made a major impact in the development and advancement of gospel music.
In addition to serving as one of the co-hosts, Winans will receive the "Chevrolet Most Notable Achievement Award" for pioneering work in song writing, outstanding performances and record sales success in the gospel music industry. The evening also will include the introduction of a new award, the "Dr. Bobby Jones Legends Award," which is named in honor of gospel music icon Dr. Bobby Jones and will be presented by Vickie Winans. The recipient of the first Dr. Bobby Jones Legends Award will be announced Saturday during the Stellar Awards.
The Stellar Awards are produced by Central City Productions, the Chicago-based company that also has has handled first-run syndication for the GMA Dove Awards for the past several years.
